Det är ren vidskeplighet, men det lever kvar hos de äldre, 80 plussare, i Kina, och i breda lager av befolkningen i främst Japan och Korea. Nick Brandt is a photographer who photographs exclusively in Africa, one of his goals being to record a visually poetic last testament to the wild animals and places there before they are gone at the hands of man. Born and raised in London, Brandt studied painting and then film at St. Martins School of Arts. Nick Brandt depicts the animals of East Africa with an intimacy and artistry unmatched by other photographers who choose wildlife as their subject. He creates these majestic sepia and blue-tone photos contrasting moments of quintessential stillness with bursts of dramatic action by engaging with these creatures on an exceptionally intimate level, without the customary use of a telephoto lens. Across the Ravaged Land is the third and final volume in Nick Brandt's trilogy of books documenting the disappearing natural world and animals of East Africa.

Brandt är britt, men efter att studier i målning och film flyttade han till Kalifornien där han började regissera musikvideos.

Till Henriks rum har jag pinnat en affisch av Nick Brandt från Fotografiska och Weekday Carnivals Tiger. (Jag behöver inte pinna  Nick Brandt i Vasa, ett självklart val för den fotointresserade till Herlers bokhandel och Lillkungs konditori i Nykarleby hyser nu en affisch för detta evenemang.

No effort was spared by Nick Brandt to express the dire state of our environment in relation to its beautiful wildlife. 2019-04-24 Contemporary British photographer Nick Brandt feels so passionately about the destruction of the African environment and the threat to both humans and animals, that he changed the whole way he works in order to realise his vision for This Empty World, his new body of work published by Thames and Hudson in February 2019, coinciding with exhibitions in London, New York and Los Angeles. 2015-11-10 Nick Brandt Born and raised in England, Nick first visited East Africa in 1995 whilst directing Earth Song , a music video he made for Michael Jackson. Nick fell in love with the place and the animals there, and felt that there was a way to photograph animals in a way that no-one had done before. Nick Brandt shoots exclusively in Africa and is one of the world’s most prolific wildlife photographers. His amazing black and white images of elephants, lions, and cheetahs can be found in galleries and private collections all over the world.
